My thanks to Travis Boschman, photographer, who graciously allowed me to use his photograph of Ben, taken in the Alberta Rockies. Not having yet had the privilege to see these beauties myself, his photography allowed me to try and capture this handsome guy in my art. The following was written by Travis specifically about Ben and the wild horses.
Ben
"During our recent time in the eastern slopes of Alberta, we were blessed to share space in the most magical land, with this beautiful guy and his band of brothers. Backed by a large storm, gorgeous foothills and glowing in the light of what seemed like a never ending sunset, this guy stood, a sentinel.
The wild horses of Alberta are a love story, most of them left, by various groups, for various reasons, to try and eke out an existence in some of the toughest terrain and circumstances imaginable. Instead, they've learned to thrive in the wild world, amongst the grizzlies, wolves and cougars that call this country home. They've built community, the bands are strong and resilient, they travel freely through valleys, meadows and up mountainsides, as the seasons ebb and flow. And they do all of it in the most majestic way, the epitome of freedom, re-wilded.
